FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chicago Academy of Music Hosts Open House to Discuss Future of St. Boniface Church

Chicago, IL (January 4th, 2017) - The Chicago Academy of Music (CAM) will present an open house and community meeting on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at 6:30 PM. This meeting will take place at the Northwestern Settlement (1012 N Noble, 2nd Floor) to discuss the future plans of the redevelopment of nearby St. Boniface Church and new constructions on currently vacant land surrounding the church.

St. Boniface Church has been a longstanding community symbol since it’s completion in 1904 but hasn’t been in use since 1990. The convent, rectory, and school that used to surround the church have been demolished and replaced with empty lots.

In 2016, preservationists won a long, hard fought battle to prevent demolition and acquire landmark status for the church. Part of this deal included a new home for a satellite campus of the Chicago Academy of Music. By saving the St. Boniface structure, CAM hopes to create a new community space and a cultural hub, inspiring a vibrant neighborhood worthy of the area’s important history.

Facilitating the event will be East Village resident and St. Boniface CAM Steering Board Member Bob Zwolinski. To discuss plans and timeline for the campus, and the past, present, and future of music education in Chicago will be owner of Stas Development Mike Skoulsky, CAM executive director Michael Scott Carter, and CAM creative executive director and world renowned musician Kahil El’Zabar. There will be time for a Q&A with community members as well.
